FABB Invitation

Warringah Concert Brass is proud to announce their invitation to attend the FABB Australasian Open in 2008.

The Federation of Australasian Brass Bands has a goal to promote the banding movement to all levels of our community and hope that individuals with musical talent and inclinations have a viable pathway into the community whether their goals be as a professional or amateur musician.

A great result by WCB at the 2008 National Championships in Brisbane as well as our 4 year winning streak at the Battle of the Bands has made WCB very deserving of our place in this competition.

This invitation only competition is the first if its kind in Australasia and we are extremely excited about the opportunity to be a part of it.

Lest we Forget

For the second year, WCB provided the music for the ANZAC Day dawn service at Manly Dam with Vaughan Price playing the Last Post and Reveille. More than 2000 people attended the dawn service to honour those who have served their country in all theatres in all wars.
In the darkness, with only the occasional kookaburra’s call to break the solemnity, the gathering commemorated the nation’s servicemen and women.
WCB supports a number of community based events through the year, none as import and significant as ANZAC Day.

Australian Band Championships 2008

Both Warringah Concert Brass and Warringah Youth Brass came home with some great results from the 2008 National Championships.

After being promoted to Junior B Grade Warringah Youth Brass came home as the 2008 Junior B Grade Champions. This is a fantastic effort and all credit must go to the music director John Saunders and his fine band of young players as well as a fantastic supporters group of family and friends. The Youth band was up against some stiff competition of much older players and finished the day on equal points with Boroondara Youth Brass. The championship went to Warringah Youth Brass as they gained higher points in the set test piece.

Warringah Concert Brass competed in Open A Grade for the second year and recorded a fantastic score to bring them in at 7th place against what was reported to be the toughest field in A Grade to date. The band had a fantastic first day finishing the day with equal points to Brisbane Excelsior who ultimately took out the championship. WCB is now on the springboard to bigger and better things in future years.

The Solo competition saw some great results from both the junior and senior bands.

Most outstanding results on the day included
Ali Graham Open Percussion Champion
Matthew Hurditch Junior Euphonium Champion
Jeremy Lloyd 2nd Junior Baritone

Congratulations to all who competed on the day.
