Matthew Hurditch
Matthew commenced his Brass playing career at the age of 9 at Belrose Public School where he was allocated a Euphonium. He progressed from the Junior Band to Senior Band in year 6. He was also an active member of the Jazz Group. Matthew joined the Warringah Concert Youth Brass Band in 2002 and plays first Euphonium. Matthew has competed in the Metropolitan, State and National Solo competitions over the past 3 years where he has gained a place in most sections he has entered. This year he won the U/15 Novice Euphonium section.
In 2004 and at the age of 12, Matthew was invited to join the Warringah Concert Brass Senior Band playing 2nd Baritone and has thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of the level of music played by the Band.
Matthew is also is current member of the Davidson High School Conert Band 1 and 2 as a Euphonium player and Junior Jazz Ensemble as a trombone player. He hopes to tour with that ensemble later in the year. He is also a member of the local community band, Brass Baton.
Matthew's Brass career has been steered by his mentor and tutor, John Saunders to whom he owes much of his success. He has aspirations to continue his music involvement into adult life.
