Kim Lovell

Kim started playing the tenor horn in 1995 with the Terrey Hills Public School Brass Band under the direction of Jack Saunders. Kim joined the Warringah Brass Training Band not long afterwards and has made her way through those ranks from band member, then sit-in tutor, and now part time conductor sharing with Jack Saunders.

Kim joined the Warringah Youth Brass in 1997 and made her way from 2nd horn up to solo horn within the next two years. Kim was lucky enough to play in 9 national contests up until and including 2006 when the band won Junior C grade in Brisbane. Now too old, Kim (i.e. Grandma) has retired from the junior band…. Semi-retired at least.

Kim joined Warringah Concert Brass during 1998 and started competing with them in 1999. Over the last 8 years Kim has experienced 2nd, 1st and solo horn. Kim would like to mention that this is the best horn section around!

A passion for performing on the tenor horn has led Kim to many competitions and awards in her time, including the 2005 New South Wales Band Association Young Musician of the year. It has also given opportunities for her to become a brass tutor and a high school music teacher in training. Kim is currently at UNSW studying for her Bachelor of Education & Bachelor of Music.

Just A quick note to add: The teddy bear, known as Big D, has been a member of the band on special occasions such as Battle of the bands and Ern Keller.
